Ellie is a multi award-winning freelance filmmaker, specialising in conservation and healthcare documentary, with a particular focus on telling the stories of those whose voices are not being heard. She is a passionate and dedicated storyteller, driven to communicate complex ideas in an engaging and accessible way. Her aim is to bring science and technology, and their social impacts, into the cultural and creative realm, and to break down the elitism of science by communicating these stories freely, openly and honestly. Ellie's background in broadcast journalism and education helps her to create engaging visual pieces whilst retaining scientific integrity. She is strictly non-editorial in her work, to allow characters to speak for themselves, as she believes the best stories are those rooted entirely in personal realism.
Ellie is experienced in scriptwriting, development, production, directing, interview, presenting, cinematography, editing, animation and marketing - she felt it important to train in all areas to enable her better understanding across the industry, so that she can act as a more effective team player in any production team, but also to enable her to be entirely self-sufficient as an independent filmmaker. This allows her to document a wide range of locations, communities and cultures in a non-disruptive, sensitive and cost-effective way, gaining the best stories with the least impact.
Ellie has even recently earned the title of Field Producer of the Northernmost Live Broadcast Studio in the World, having produced and presented XL Catlin's Arctic Live 2018 - broadcasting two weeks' of educational content from Svalbard live to students around the world. She was also the Field Producer and Co-Presenter of AXA Coral Live 2018 live from Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, broadcasting underwater demonstrations from researchers on the coral reef and within the wetlabs at the CARMABI Research Institute.
Ellie has experience filming in all climates and environments, and is no stranger to extreme heat and cold, humidity, and harsh or dangerous landscapes. Her work has been featured in film festivals and news stories internationally, and she regularly works as a freelance filmmaker for conservation and healthcare charities, as well as adventure travel companies.
As a solo female filmmaker, Ellie is fiercely committed to empowering women and girls in pursuing careers in science, technology, or film.
She is particularly interested in documentary stories combining environment, healthcare, education and/or social action, and adventure travel, and is happy to accept private commissions. Please get in touch using the contact form to find out more.
