Ellie is currently working between the UK and US as a freelance documentary filmmaker and drone pilot. Most recently she lived in Borneo as an educator and conservationist, working with indigenous communities alongside agricultural industry representatives looking towards sustainable solutions for biodiversity management. She is an experienced educator and communicator, has taught internationally, and has a background in conservation, science academia and journalism.
Ellie studied Natural Sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge, specialising in Geological Sciences (Evolutionary Paleobiology). She has also recently completed postgraduate study in Science Communication at Imperial College London, specialising in Science Documentary for TV and Radio.
Ellie's first Feature Documentary, Fragmented, has won numerous awards and has premiered in 12 countries to date. See the Film page for more information on other works.
Ellie's interest in audio and radio had led her to producing several pieces of audio work. See the Audio page for more.
Ellie has most recently been working as Mission Director and Drone Pilot for The Plastic Tide - a revolutionary project using drone technology to map plastic pollution on UK coastlines.
Ellie's additional interests include diving, riding, cartography, travel and language. She speaks English, German, some French and Behasa Indonesia/Malayu. She is a self-defined 'biologeek' and academic nerd, and finds almost anything interesting, especially when people are passionate about it. She reads voraciously, watches too many films, loves colour-coded spreadsheets and quirky facts.
She holds an international off-road driving license, and is a qualified Drone Pilot, Scuba Diver, and Expedition Leader. She is an avid traveller, having spent much of her life in new communities and immersing herself in local cultures. As an environmentalist, she is an active campaigner for improved agricultural policy, zero-waste living, and sustainable lifestyle changes. She supports several charities in the sectors of healthcare, conservation and support for military veterans. She is also an advocate for the benefits of exercise and mental health, having competed at high level in multiple sports and as a newly converted yoga lover. To discover more, read her blog.
